We're proud of every small business and organization in the harbor that could grab the "Best of Baltimore" title, but the Waterfront Partnership is incredibly thrilled to see Jake's Skate Park win this year's "Best Skate Park."

Jake's Skate Park was conceptualized from feedback during the community outreach stage of Rash Field Park's Phase I Redevelopment. The skate park was named after Jake Owen, a five-year-old South Baltimore boy who became an avid skateboarder and sports enthusiast before his life was cut short when a cell phone distracted driver struck his family's car. The park was named in his honor and planned to be a dedicated space accessible for skaters of all ages and abilities.

Fast forward to 2022, the Waterfront Partnership has teamed up with professional skateboarder Joey Jett (@ joey__jett) and other active sports organizations to provide regular programming for young skaters to learn in a safe and encouraging environment.

Every April starting this year, you can join us for Jake's Day, our annual celebration honoring Jake and Baltimore's youth skate culture. At monthly "Board's and Breakfast" skate sessions, you can find Joey and his crew providing free lessons and giveaways to aspiring young skaters. Waffles by Good Food (@alboogey_) and Coffee by Babe Bean Roasting (@babebeansroasting) keep bellies full for both shredders and parents.

Through Chill Foundation's Baltimore Chapter (@chillfoundation), parents can sign up their kids for youth skate camps that travel to Jake's Skate Park and other parks throughout the city.

Though we're happy that Jake's Skate Park grabbed the title of "Baltimore's Best Skate Park," we're most proud of the community we've built. At every event, we see the same faces return, new faces jump on their boards, kids wearing Jake's Skate Park t-shirts they got from earlier events, and even parents getting on some wheels of their own!

Join us for the next Boards & Breakfast on September 10th! Thanks to Joey Jett, we've extended our season and added two more dates, October 8th and November 12th
