Insect Hotels Draw Important Pollinators to the Waterfront
Wildlife gardening, or intentionally creating sustainable environments for surrounding creatures, is an important part of caring for our waterfront parks and gardens. One engaging way of doing this is by creating bee and insect hotels! These sculptural elements offer an inviting place to stay for certain insects, including bees. It’s a win-win situation- the hotels bring beneficial insects to the waterfront by providing them a safe place to nest.
In 2023, with the help of our volunteers from organizations like CareFirst, Morgan Stanley, and BGE, we installed 2 new insect hotels and maintained 2 existing ones.
You can check out the hotels at Lancaster Canal and Rash Field- see who you find vacationing there!
