We hope you’ll join us on November 4th for Baker Artists Extravaganza, produced by Wendel Patrick! Each Baltimore by Baltimore event brings something new to the stage, whether it be in the form of a performance, an art form, or a cuisine; and now, we are proud to announce that November’s show will feature a new partnership! November BxB will be brought to you in collaboration with the Baker Artists Portfolio, a program of the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance.
Wendel Patrick is a Baltimore based professor, composer, producer, beatmaker, pianist, sonic architect, photographer, and videographer. Known for his trailblazing fusion of jazz, hip-hop, and electronic music, he has established himself as a boundary-pushing artist. A winner of the prestigious Baker Artist Awards’ Mary Sawyers Baker grand prize in 2015, Wendel currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance. We are thrilled to be working
with him to showcase our city’s talented local creatives.
The Baker Artist Portfolios were created to support artists and promote Greater Baltimore as a strong creative community. The online portfolios are open to artists working in all disciplines who live and work in Baltimore City and its five surrounding counties. The portfolios expose area artists’ work to regional, national, and international audiences. We’re honored that our series of programming has been recognized by such an esteemed arts institute.

CHEYANNE ZADIA GIVENS is an interdisciplinary creator, musician and director from West Baltimore, Maryland. Her works include visual and performance art, poetry, composing, filmmaking, conceptual design, and curatorial practice. The basis of her work speaks to perspective, memorials of black culture, social relativity, spirituality, and the merging of sub-cultures.

Lafayette Gilchrist
Lafayette Gilchrist heads an octet/nonet named the New Volcanoes, and a trio called Inside Out. Gilchrist acknowledges multiple influences on his music: "I come from hip-hop culture, [...] I'm not a rapper. I'm not a DJ. I'm not a dancer. But I feed off of all that. All of that's part of what I grew up in, what I grew up around.
An NPR reviewer commented that Gilchrist's "two-handed piano [...] has techno and minimalism behind it. It's not just about the notes; it's also about the waves in which they come, and the troughs in between"

J Pope and the Hear Now
J Pope and the HearNow hope that their music will do two things for you: 1. Improve your day, and 2. Refresh your perspective about the lives we all live and the spaces we share. The HearNow’s sound is a musical exploration into the deepest pockets of soul and hip-hop, lined with the dirty sonic lint of funk, as well as the sudden, sometimes unexpected twists of bebop and funk fusion. The music is topped with the lyrics of front woman, J Pope, who ziggs and zaggs between clever lyrical melodies and rapid-fire rhymes with a free-feeling flow and a sophisticated swagger.

Jamal R. Moore
Jamal R. Moore is a native of Baltimore Maryland who is a multi-instrumentalist, composer/performer, and educator.
His background includes California Institute of The Arts (M.F.A. 2012), Berklee College of Music (B.M 2005), Eubie Blake Jazz Orchestra (2000) under the direction of Christopher Calloway Brooks, and historically acclaimed Frederick Douglass Sr.
High where notable alumni Thurgood Marshall, Cab Calloway, and Ethel Ennis graduated from.

Scott Patterson
Scott Patterson is an award-winning multi-disciplinary cosmic artist and the Artistic Director of Afro House, a Baltimore-based organization dedicated to creating art that disrupts and transforms the human imagination. Currently, he is working on an Afrofuturistic sci-fantasy film called Cloud Nebula. The film, which he wrote and will direct, goes into production in December.
