CIAA 2023: Plan your trip

Are you visiting Baltimore for the CIAA Tournament this month? Check out these events and places to visit happening during the tournament, all within walking distance of the games.

The CIAA (Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association) tournament is being held in Baltimore February 21-25 and there is an exciting line up of events happening all week!

Whether you’re traveling to Baltimore just for the event or you’re a local, there’s plenty to explore along the waterfront during the tournament. Here’s our itinerary for your weekend at CIAA 2023, including can’t-miss events hosted by the association as well as places to visit while you’re in the area.


Thursday, February 23

Thursday’s stop on the Black Owned Restaurant Tour Week: Papi Cuisine
Be sure to visit this Afro-Latin Fusion restaurant! Their menu offers plenty of seafood, including delicious crab cakes- because when in Baltimore, right?

FAMILY FRIENDLY THINGS TO DO

Rash Field Park
If you’re traveling with your kids, be sure to bring them over to Rash Field Park! This waterfront park has plenty of green space to enjoy, nature play, and a skate park, and it’s a short 13 minute walk from the convention center or a 20 minute walk from CFG Arena!

PEDESTRIAN PRO TIP:

Definitely take the chance to walk from CFG Arena back to the Inner Harbor and take in some iconic Baltimore city sights! The 3 Point Pop Up is conveniently located along your walk, so you can stop to shop from local vendors or hang out in one of the heated tents and listen to local musicians.

Friday’s stop on the Black Owned Restaurant Tour Week: Hoodfellas Bistro Catering
Hoodfellas serves delicious American and soul food, with an extensive menu including cocktails and drinks. Be sure to try their own Hoodfella cocktail!

FAMILY FRIENDLY THINGS TO DO

National Aquarium
You really can’t visit Baltimore without seeing the aquarium! It’s only 10 minutes walking distance from the convention center. Friday is the perfect time to take your kids over after 5pm for the Half Price Friday Night special. 

PEDESTRIAN PRO TIP:

The walk from CFG Arena to the National Aquarium is less than 20 minutes and has some great photo ops! Be sure to stop and snap a pic at the Visit Baltimore sign and explore the Historic Ships in Baltimore along the waterfront!


NEARBY PLACES TO VISIT

Saturday’s stop on the Black Owned Restaurant Tour Week: Unity Bar and Restaurant
Located in Baltimore’s cultural district, this sophisticated bar & restaurant offers a tantalizing menu featuring wings, burgers, pasta, and more.

FAMILY FRIENDLY THINGS TO DO

Take your kids to the Top of the World! This observation level at the top of the World Trade Center offers stunning views of the city and harbor.

PEDESTRIAN PRO TIP:

While walking over to the Inner Harbor, be sure to stop and check out the Amphitheater and grab a bite from 3 Jay's Seafood & Chicken! They will be set up right on the harbor 11am-7pm Saturday.


Sunday, February 26

NEARBY PLACES TO VISIT

Sunday is the perfect day to explore Fells Point! Just over a mile from the Inner Harbor, the historic neighborhood is a great place to shop, dine, and explore. Enjoy the hustle and bustle of Broadway Square or wander up South Broadway for delicious Latin cuisine at one of the neighborhood’s many independently owned restaurants.

FAMILY FRIENDLY THINGS TO DO

Fells Point is a haven for walkers, runners, and kids who need to burn off a little energy by moving around! Wander the historic cobblestone streets or talk a stroll around the waterfront promenade. When it’s time to warm up indoors, Broadway Market is a great place for kids- choose from different types of food and grab some Taharka Bros for dessert!

PEDESTRIAN PRO TIP:

The walk from the Inner Harbor to Fells Point takes you right through Harbor East! Stop and get a warm beverage at one of the coffeeshops here and enjoy the waterfront promenade’s gorgeous harbor views.
